That last day of school feeling....

Has is gone that fast?? Does it always go that fast??
(all you older parents are probably shaking you head.. uh huh..)

Today is the E1's last day for preK. He really loved the class, and especially his teacher Mrs V. What an Angel. E1 has grown so much. There's blue sky outside. The wicked heat from earlier in the week has taken a break. I've got great 70's and 80's tune jamming in my ears as I'm stuck behind these computer monitors. I'm energetic and somewhat in the zone. As opposed to my sleep deprived-zombie like alternate identity.
But I'm distracted. Thinking about E1, and how he's out of school. Thinking about Mama and E2. (Whatya doin?) Exciting is building about bringing K home..

I've heard this before, but it really hit me differently today. Not sure why. I think its the part "I do not pray for the world." I wonder.. when we all get wrapped up "in the world" which at least for me is far far to often. How easy we lose focus. Anyway. I love it. And so I bring you The Today's Reading of the day..

The Return of the King -- Stories on the sheets

So awhile back I posted about how I never seem to find the time to read. Partially because I'm a slow reader, and you couple that with being tired, I usually get about 1 or 2 pages and is off to snooze-ville.

I started on some audiobooks that I listened two while in the car. First it was the classic novel "The Heart of Darkness". I then moved onto the The Fellowship of the Ring. I completed all 16 discs of that book, and the 14 disk from "The Two Towers". I've now recently started on "The Return of the King".

Along with our boys recent religious spout, they are also running around arguing "I am Legolas". "No!! I AM Legolas". Poor Gimli, nobody even wants to be Gimli. Sometimes Evans will be Aragorn or Gandolf. We don't read books at bed either.

As bedtime I gather a semi random assortment of stuffed animals who will play the parts of one of our heroes (or villains) from our Lord of the Rings tails. Night after night its the Hobbits and Gollum on their journey into Mordor. Or is Merry and Pippin and Treebeard.

Oh what fun. It keeps all our imaginations running wild. Who would have guess that Papa and his audiobooks would lead to such fun story time each night..

Oh E, God's Light Shines Brightly Upon You!

E1 has been particularly HOLY lately. I like to think it is God's way of reminding us what is important as coming from a 5 year old, it makes you stop and think about what is really important. Exhausted, I laid down for a rare nap on Saturday, E2 was upstairs napping and E1 was cuddled up in the chair watching his favorite movie. I dozed off only to be awaken by a 40 lb 5 year old crawling over my legs, half asleep, I asked him if there was something he needed. Instead of answering with one of the thousands of requests mom's all over the world hear every day from "can I have some juice, can I have some candy, can I can I can I" he asked me if I needed a story.... so I am thinking, "aw, that is sweet, now get off my legs so I can sleep!", so I politely decline and say "mama's just trying to get a little rest", then he asked me if I needed a prayer, we dog-gone-it, who in their right mind is going to refuse that! So I tell him yes, I need a prayer (not really sure what is going to happen next) and he proceeds to pray the Our Father and Hail Mary over me! I felt pretty darn blessed after that!

Fast forward to Sunday, and for some reason, I decided to stress myself out on Mothers Day and volunteered to do the first reading. I have to admit, it wasn't the most exciting of readings, something about circumcision, I went up to the podium, read the reading and returned to my seat. E1 quickly moved down the row to me, clearly with something burning in his mind he needed to say and pulled me over to whisper in my ear "Next time, you tell them about Jonah and Daniel and the Lions Den, ok, ok???" , "Ok, E, next time I will tell them something more exciting! "

One turn deserves another

Yesterday I found out that the Milwaukee marathon had closed. This was disappointing to me since that was my backup since I am unable to make it to the Chicago Marathon in 10/10/10. To avoid the procrastination syndrome again. I checked with the family calendar and notched off Sunday Sept 19th. So the backup to my backup will be the Inaugural Fox Valley Marathon. Its a small race. Should be fun...

Milwaukee's Lakefront Marathon registration closed as of 4/21/2010!

DANG! Because of some family events happening, I am unable to participate in the Chicago marathon this year. My backup race, the Milwaukee marathon, just closed as well. For reasons I'm not getting into on this blog, I had to hold off on registering. But just last week those reasons were cleared up. Now that race also is closed..

Today's Reading of the day...

It has been awhile. But a portion of today's Gospel reading just seemed to fit naturally into thought. In an overly secular world, in a country that seems to have forgotten or at least moved away from some of its founding principals, a tiny reminder seems prudent. You may not subscribe to the precepts, or choose to follow or believe them, but they have been in place been proven over 2000 years.

We each have a choice. Each day we have a new opportunity to make that choice. We can live as we are intended to live, or we can live as we each desire personally. Personally I strive (not always successfully) to make the later align with the first.

A picture is worth a thousand words..

So you are just going to have to guess since I didn't take one yet. Ha!

Since we are in radio silence. And J is trying to stay busy, occupied, that sort of thing. Some of the basement punch list items have been getting some pressure. Being a good worker bee, I'm giving some heed to my project manager.

The "pole wrap" is up. What's a pole wrap? Think the cover of a role top desk, wrapped around one of the steel support posts in the basement to make it look decorative.

The walls have pictures and tapestry and a cuckoo clock even.

The carpeting for the stairway is on order.

My sample "faux" window was a success. Same with the glued-up,biscuit jointed shelf experiment. So I need some "garage time" to crank those out. All that might be left after that is the stairway lighting that we are thinking about. And maybe the electricity under the stairs to a different feed.

Radio Silence

As some of you know, there has been a lot going on in the past couple of weeks, adoption related. Many of the blogs have gone private and others have stopped posting. I think T & I both know that only a handful of people read our blog (I know, we just arn't that interesting!) but at the same time, we don't want to jepordize anything while we are still in process. So at this time, we are going to limit our adoption updates to our Facebook friends. We will keep posting to this blog, but you will probably hear more about basement renovations and silly E1 & E2 stories than anything else, until we have our little girl safely home....Peace Out!
